There's an inspiration challenge at the guild in August. I would like to make a quilt with a lot of white space, but I'm afraid to use white fabrics for throw. There are many modern quilts made with white fabrics, and I wonder how they take care of it. Aren't they afraid that someone might spill drinks or food on it? What if they don't come out after wash? Does people think that will give a charm/character on the quilt? Without making a decision of weather I should use white as my background or not, I can't start making a quilt. The time is ticking, so I have to come up with decision.
Meanwhile, here's my first modern quilt I made.
Welcome to St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild! It is a fantastically fun group. You will have a great time with them. I have quilts with white space and they are stored away, partly because most of them are from long ago and were given to me. The one quilt that I made with white space is small and used for a wall hanging. Maybe the best thing to do to avoid spills, etc. is to make it for use as a wall hanging. I know that I would not want my white space quilt to be spilled on. Just some thoughts. Look forward to more blog posts from you.

ReplyDeleteWe are so glad to have you in our group and look forward to seeing what you do next. I've only ever made smaller quilts (baby-size and wall-size) using white; but there are no "rules". Do whatever you think is best and for the purpose you are intending. Can't wait to see your challenge quilt.
